Target Audiences

The demographic target audience for my magazine are males aged 16-28, it is focused on a younger target audience that are starting out at the gym to gain muscle, i feel as though this type of magazine will be most beneficial for this age group because lot of males will be on "the gym hype". The psychographic target audience for my magazine are people who are interested in fitness, health and gaining muscle. I will address my target audience in an informal kind of way i will use language that is more appealing to a younger target audience. I will use a younger model on the cover to relate to my target audience. I will use bright colours such as reds and yellows and will also use a lot of black to promote energy and power. i will use a lot of fitness related language and images to clearly distinguish my magazine is a fitness magazine,

I am analysing a film magazine, the codes and conventions of this magazine show its a film magazine because it uses a lot of film terminology, it has a lot of different film names on. The magazine also includes a picture of Leonardo DiCaprio. In the picture Leonardo DiCaprio is dressed in an all black suit, this shows he is a powerful and bold character. He is stood straight with his head facing slightly to his left and his holding a gun in his hand. He has his hair slicked back and looks very serious, this is a stereotype of the well known James Bond character looking mysterious and looking serious all the time. Half his face in a shadow again this shows mystery and he has something to hide. The Masthead and the headline are both coloured in red connoting energy, strength and intensity showing that this magazine and this article is very informative , its also very visible against the dark background and sort of jumps at you with the sudden use of red. The background is an ariel shot looking down of what seems to be New York with a grey scale filter on it. The light is coming from he floor and is shooting up like beams of light. The mode of address for this magazine is informal as it uses language such as 'The matrix meets 007 ON STEROIDS' this is very informal because the word steroids is used as a youthism. The magazine it self address people by their first name such as 'Nolan takes his Gotham' this also shows informality and that this magazine is informative yet laid back. The secondary articles around Leonardo are at an angle to match the background effect with the buildings and light coming up from the ground, this is very aesthetically pleasing and makes the magazine more appealing to its target audience. The demographic target audience for this magazine is for people aged 16-35, the dark colours and image may appeal to the older section in that target market however the use of 'Toy Story' a children's film is also used amongst the other film types appealing to more than one target audience. The psychographic target audience of this magazine is fans of the actor Leonardo DiCaprio as he stars as the feature article photograph, another psychographic target audience is film fans, particularly Christopher Nolan fans.

Regulation & regulatory bodies

Each media is regulated by a body whose responsibilities it is to ensure that content is suitable and follows a code of practice. The main regulatory body for magazines is the independent press standard organisation (IPSO). There are multiple regulations put in place such as:

Opportunity to reply A fair opportunity for reply to inaccuracies must be given.

HarassmentJournalists must not intimidate, pursue or harass a person. They must not persist in questioning, telephoning, pursuing or photographing individuals without consent nor remain on their property when asked to leave and must not follow them.
ChildrenA child under 16 must not be interviewed or photographed on issues involving their own or another child's welfare unless a custodial parent or similarly responsible adult consents. The press must not identify children under 16 who are victims or witnesses in cases involving sex offences. In any press report of a case involving a sexual offence against a child. The child must not be identified. The adult may be identified.

HospitalsJournalists must identify themselves and obtain permission from a responsible executive before entering non-public areas of hospitals or similar institutions to pursue enquiries. The restrictions on intruding into privacy are particularly relevant to enquiries about individuals in hospitals or similar institutions.
Reporting of crimeRelatives or friends of persons convicted or accused of crime should not generally be identified without their consent, unless they are genuinely relevant to the story.

The public interest Detecting or exposing crime or serious impropriety. Protecting public health and safety. Preventing the public from being misled by an action or statement of an individual or organisation.

I understand these regulations and rules about publishing and recording images or text, this will help me when making my magazine because i know what is needed, what cannot be published and what is safe to use. My article will be respectful of privacy, not offend or discriminate anyone and i must not harass anyone under any circumstance and make sure my magazine isn't in any way misleading or misguiding and contain clearly distinguished facts.

I am analysing a men's fitness magazine, the codes and conventions of this particular magazine indicate it is fitness magazines because it uses a typical muscular model in this case the actor Dwayne Johnson, it has a lot of language related to fitness and building muscle, it has a masthead, secondary articles and a headline. The psychographic target audience of this magazine are people who want to gain muscle and keep fit, another psychographic target audience is the fans of Dwayne Johnson or his wrestling nickname 'The Rock'. The demographic target audience is men aged 16-28 because the actor used is more appealing to a younger audience because he is an actor in many great films and is also a famous wrestler.

The masthead of the magazine 'Muscle & Fitness' is coloured in red this connotes energy, power and determination, the title is hidden behind the image showing that it is a well known magazine by doing that. The main feature article image is of the famous actor Dwayne Johnson. He is in the centre of the magazine being the main focal point and is dressed in all black this connotes strength and authority. His face is also quiet serious meaning this magazine isn't about fun and games. The image is of his torso and face only, his body is turned to the side to show off his arms and head looking over his shoulder. The mode of address for this magazine is quiet informal as people are being referred to as their first names (Dwayne) and also uses language such as 'bad ass'. Another reason it is informal is because the actor is dressed in a plain black tank top to show off his muscles. Despite the informality the mode of address is also quiet serious because it uses lots of dark colours and plain colours such as mainly blacks whites and red, these all connote sophistication despite it being a fitness magazine.
